What is a miniature horse?

Miniature horses are a lot smaller than a regular horse or pony, however, they remain horses. The height of a horse or a pony is measured from the ground to their withers (shoulders) and will measure between 80-95 cm. Mini equines are not dwarfs, and are considered proportional but smaller than full size horses. Like many pets, miniature horses were selectively bred over centuries, beginning in the 1600s. Breeding the smallest foals together over time, miniature horses became their own breed with each country creating registries.

A pony is an equine with a rounder body and shorter legs. Overall, their conformation is stockier than horses.
